1ST ASH VILLE:TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1857.A.«ba of flat; Control America.Tbt* passengers by the Empire City, wbioh left llovnna one hour after the Control America, suffered great hardships front teftibfo atorine, and the Empire City pot into Norfolk in distress. The Central America was loaf, ODe of the moat awful shipwrecks that ever •hooked the world! The steamship Central America left thn harbor of Havana, at 0 o’c'ook in the morning, on Tuesday, the 8th ioat., under command of Lieutenant Hkbx-dks, of tbe United States Navy. The Centra! America bad on board live hsndred and twen-ty-five passengers, and a crew of one bond red men, with one million six hundred thousand dollars in specie, from California, for New \ ork. She left Havana in excellent time with all well on board and in good spirit*. The storm corne on next day, and lasted six days, for aome days a perf.-ct hurricane blowing. The telegraph tells all that we know of the disnMer to the Central America—that the vessel foundered at sea on the 12'h, and that only fifty of her passengers were raved, the balance, togther with the crew, and all the officers except one, found a watery grave. Serious apprehensions are felt lor her.
