For the W anhington Democrat.At a meeting o! delegatee from various Christian churches, held with the Christian church in Salem, Indiana, on the 2nd instant, S. W. Leonard, of Clark county, introduced the following resolution:—“ Resolved, that we disappro^ate thetraffic in intoxicating drinks as a beverage, and hold it unscriplural and dis-grcelultor any member of a Christian church to be engaged in such a traffic.The passage of this resolution by the meeting ot delegates from the various Christian Churches in seven counties met in a district meeting capacity at Salem, Indiana, was urged by the mover, by L Hardman, A. Hubbard, A. C. Williamson, J. Wright, E. Goodwin, and perhaps others. Its passage was opposed by J. Matting)) and the Messrs. Mavity, solely on the ground, that a religious meeting should not pass a resolution, having, as they thought, a political bearing, so near the eva ofa great political excitement; and not that they objected to the correctness of the resoultion.The resolution passed by a vote of forty-four! to one! !S.
