Explosion of: Nitro-Glycerise, Almeat’ ‘Wrecks Casey“ “School Building. Wiridown’ tithe “pred »chool *buil ding‘ and nearby residences in Casey were shattered, when « quantity of nitro-glycerina exploded on the pave ment just in front of the school’ build ing located on’ the National road, “bm, the east part of that city, Monday: morning. The ‘explosion occurred about 9:90 o'clock, a short time after the school session began, ‘and the fact “ that there were no children upon the play ground at the time probably saved many lives. “As it was,’ to one In, the school building was seriously in jured, although” 2 few children ‘were slightly cut by broken’: ‘glass. ie . Stiver was blown many feet into the air and so badly madgled that he died about 6 o'clock that evening, in the Effing ham Hospital. Casey officials in conjunction with, the Sheriff got what Information they could from Stivers before he died’ and it was learned that his home was~ “In St. Louis ard.that he had been em ployed by a fireworks company in Danville, Ill. —Officials-of -this con cern said that he had been discharg ed and had probably taken the nitro glycerine with him when he left. He also carried a revolver. His parents in St. Louis were no tified and came to Effingham to claim the body.
