Will Burkukad “Gone!”—“Mr \V. G. Burkhead, editor of the Durham Plant, has withdrawn trora that paper and joined the Third party. A Third party organ, the Progress, is to appear in Durham, of which Mr Burkhead is the editor. The only notice the Plant gives of the withdrawal, is an array of headlines under the heading, “Editorial Briefs:—Going! Going!! Going!!! Gone!” Of course it’s funny. We clip the above from the Winston Republican, which is Republican in (act as well as name. Yes, of course, it’s very funny to all radicals to see a former Democrat turn over and join hands with them in their effort to “down the White Man’s parly.” It’s enough to tickle them, we must confess. The only hope of carrying the State is through just such “going” as Mr Burkhead has “gone and done.” But isn’t it amazingly strange that a sensible white man will desert the ship that has carried ua safely through the turbulentwaves and join a torpedo crew to blow up the grand old ship? Verily, truth 19 stranger than fiction. The Plant woulcf like to ask if a majority of the slock of the Progress Publishing Co. is not owned by men who bare heretofore voted the Republican ticket. The Progress need not answer this question if it is an improper one.—Durham Plant.
