Anniversaries50 YEARSMr. and Mrs. A/ar Kirkishcelebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Sunday,Aug. 25.COPPER Harbor’s OurLady of the Pines church was the site of a Mass celebrated by Frs. Albert and Gerald Held, OFM. The couple’s daughter, Cecilia Walter of Battle Creek represented the matron of honor and Mr. Kirkish’s brother George repeated his role as best man.At Keweenaw Lodge, a champagne reception andbuffet included about 150 guests. Son in law George Williams was emcee.Mr. Mrs. Kirkish later hosted an open house at their Copper Harbor cottage.Mr. Kirkish came to theU.S. from Lebanon in 1911,and, with his father and brothers, established Kirkish Brothers, first peddling dry goods, and later as a Houghtonstore.Now retired for reasons of health, the Kirkishes live in Hollywood, FL, in the winter.Anjool Brady, born in Iron Mountain, met Mr. Kirkish when she worked in the store. They were married in St. Ignatius church, Aug. 25, 1924.In addition to Mrs. Walter, their children include son Joseph, on the Michigan Tech faculty; Eleanor B. (Mrs. George Williams), of Madrid, Spain; and J ames of Houghton.Friends from six states, including California, joined in the celebration.With this anniversary, the three Kirkish brothers and their sister Karma, now deceased, have celebrated their golden anniversaries. The brothers were on hand for the occasion as was Mrs. Kirkish’s sister, Nabeeha Hydar of St. Clair Shores.
