Much time has been spent in the great out-of-doors by Girl Guides this Summer. Attended Guiders’ Camp Six members of this division attend ed the Guiders’ Camp at Sylvan Lake from July 9th to July 16th. Guiders attending this training camp were: Commissioner FE. Clappison; Capt. Vera Hagerty, of Rosebud; Capt. Mavis Neville, of Drumheller; Capt. Rose Dennis, of Nacmine; also Miss Joan Martin, of Rosebud, and Miss Maimie Gray, of Drumheller.” Pine Lake Camp, ‘July 20-30 A camp of twenty-one Guides was ‘held at Pine Lake from July 20 to July 30. The staff included Mrs. Hymas, Miss Hagerty; Miss Stewart, of lacleod, swimming Instructor; Miss G. Van Volsem, first aider; Mrs. L. Van Volsem, cook, and Miss E. Clappison. Weather was ideal for the first 9.5 days of this camp. Time was spent in hiking, swim ming, handicraft, stalking, etc. Swimming tests were passed by the following five girls: 1, Irene Gal lagher; 2, Margaret Van Volsem; 3, Jean Hymas; 4, Jean Noy; 5, Colleen Watt. Half-day hike tests were passed by the following girls: 1, Hazel Cote; 2, Colleen Watt; 3, Jean Noy. Of the 21 Guides at this camp sponsored by the Rosebud Local Association, [2 Guides were from Rosebud, 8 Guides from Rosedale, and one Guide from Drumheller. Thanks are extended to Mrs. Walter Hymas for helping out when Miss Clappison was unavoidably absent; the members of the Rosebud Local Association; Mr. Walter Hymas , and Mr. Comstock for transporting Guides and equipment; Mrs. Van Volsem, for so capably taking over the Cook’s work, Mrs. Loree, Captain of the Hanna Guides, was a welcomed visitor at this Camp. C.W.L. Company Activities Eight girls from the C.W.L. Com pany, Drumheller, accompanied by Captain Mavis Neville, camped at Bragg Creek. Miss Ethel MacIntyre, of this Com pany, attended the Patrol Leaders’ Camp at Sylvan Lake. . Enjoyed Overnight. Camp Captain Neville took the C.WL. Company on an overnight camp in the last week of vacation. Sixteen girls were in attendance at this camp. The time was spent in signalling, stalking, camping, horse-back riding, ‘etc. Two camp-fires were held. The first was for the Campers.” ~ ‘The second camp-fire was a huge one, with fire brands being prepared and duly dedicated. Margaret Mac Intyre at the fire she had prepared Visitors to this camp-fire were: Mr. and Mrs. MacIntyre and Ethel; Mrs. DeBoer; Mrs. T. Neville; Capt. QR. Dennis, of. Nacmine, and twenty-five of the Nacmine Guides. At the conclusion, rousing cheers were raised for various leaders and helpers. A hearty lunch was dis pensed with before the girls returned to Drumheller with memories of a happy, busy camp to tide them over: till camp time next year. Thanks are extended to: Mrs. Swallow, who gave generously of her cooking abilities; Mr. and Mrs. De Boer, Lois and Bud, for their many kindnesses to Guiders and Guides, while camping on their farm; Marten Bros. for transportation; owners of the private cars that brought the girls back into town; Guides Irene Gallagher, Mary MacPhee and Noemi Berlando, of the Rosedale Coy., who helped out in the training, and to Capt. Mavis Neville, and Miss E. Clappison. Appreciation is also rendered those who contributed fruit, cooking, etc. Fall and Winter Plans Plans are now well advanced for the Fall and Winter activities of the Guides and Brownies. Many Com panies and Packs have had _ their first meetings. The I.O.D.E.-sponsored Guides and Brownies will be re-organized in Drumheller immediately. _ The Commissioner would like to thank: Mary Ellen Smith Chapter, TO.D.E.; Thomas Greentree Chapter, IO.D.E.; Lady Willingdon Chapter, 1.O.D.E., for their financial support.
