CEYLON.COLOMBO.The dates from this port are to the 23rd August, the Londonmail of 30th July being due on the same day. The Colombo Observer has the following Sir Hercules Robinson, Lady and MissRobinson, Mr. Irving, the Colonial Secretary | Captain Chapman,A.D.C.; Mr. Cameron, Private Secretary, and Br. Charsleyarrived in Colombo on the 14th August after their tour throughBadulia, and Haldumulla, and then by Ratnapura homewards.^ The Examiner says the Governor will remain at Colombo till the close of the Legislative Council Sessions, which are expected to be opened without further delay. Only one draft of a proposed ordinance has as yet appeared in the Gazette, and we cam only speculate on the character of the measures to be brought forward. Chief among these will be a Bill sanctioning the Gallo Harbour improvements, on the terms offered by the Home Government, and a Bill to assimilate the currency of the island to that of India.Major-General Rennie, the recently arrived commander of our troops, does not seem to let the grass grow under his feet. Since he assumed the command he has been everywhere looking intoeverything. We now hear of him from Trincomalee as inspecting the garrison, awarding praise to some and taking others to task.
