THURSDAY,, SEPT. 19. 2013ILAGUMA NEWS-POSTLaguna boy performs rescue at summer campJunior LifeguardsinasijyvPm drowning/BY JOANNA CL AYORANGE COUNTY REGISTERIf k weren’t for Junior Lifeguards, Jameson Roller probably wouldn’t have had t he confidence to jump in the lake and save a friend last, month.Jameson,, a seventh-grader at Thurston Middle School, was attending a summer camp and doing an activity on the water of Da-mariscot t a Lake in Maine when he heard his friend in distress,,“He stopped halfway between the rocks, and the dock and started saying; ‘I'm drowning; I’m drowning/ Jameson, 12, said. “His facial expressions were serious, and Ixrwas re a la v iiMJ'and i needed to do this.” Jameson spotted some floatation devices on the ground and jumped into the water and put one around his friend, swimming him back to shore.During the summer, Jameson completed his second year in the Junior Lifeguard program in Laguna Reach.DJ Roller, Jameson’s father, was glad, his son sees the value of the program and thinks it has provided an invaluable service, famil-ia.ri.zi ng the partici pants with local conditions and preparing them to 1*0001, safely - something he thinks should be mandatory for kids.Jameson credited the program for giving him the f to assess the situa-C£J -EdavCOURTESY OF THE ROLLER FAMILYJunior lifeguard Jameson Roller, a seventh-grader at Thurston Middle School,,, helped save a friend struggling in a lake while they were at a camp lin Maine.“My first reaction was, ‘Oh, my gosh, he’s drowning!
