Newfoundland battered?■ *CAPE RACE, Canada (UPD — Hurricane Debby — weakened only slightly by passing over cold water — roared north last night and battered the Newfoundland coast with a torrential downpour, high waves and fierce winds, officials said.Rescue teams evacuated the crew of one MobU Oil of Canada rig in the path of the hurricane off southeastern Newfoundland. Most of the men on a second rig were also evacuated as Debby pushed northward at 23 miles per hour.
