'Bad Bad Leroy Brown' to sing in Iowa CityThe singer-guitarist who introduced “Bad, Bad LeRoy Brown” to the musical world will present a concert at The University of Iowa Sept. 30.Jim Croce will appear at 8 p.m. in Hancher Auditorium, sponsored by the Hancher Concert Area of University Programming Service.Art exhibit(OPS) - An exhibit of Dutch graphic art is on display at the Cornell Commons through Oct. 12. The public is welcome to view the prints from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 10:00 p.m. Sunday.Among the 68 prints by 24 Dutch artists are examples of silk screen, intaglio, blind blocking, colored litho, etching and aquatint. Artists represented include Rob Nieuwenhuis, Jef Diederen and Martin Engelman.The exhibit was organized by a Dutch artist-designer working with the art department of the Ministry of Culture of the Netherlands. It has toured in South America, and is now being circulated for the first time in the United States.The 30-year-old pertormer and composer achieved national fame in 1972 with his album, “Don’t Mess Around with Jim He earned a gold record for the sale of more than a million copies of “LeRoy Brown.”Tickets, at $4.00 a piece, for the concert are now available at Hancher Box Office or by mail order. Hancher Box Office is open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1 to 3 Sunday afternoons and until 9:00 on the nights of performances at the auditorium.Croce has worked as a telephone lineman, a long-distance truck driver and a construction worker. He taught emotionally disturbed high school students in his hometown, Philadelphia, sold radio spots for an all-black station and narrated a television special on the plight of coal miners.His musical career has ranged from the college campus and the most famous coffee houses in the country to some of the roughest bars. Of the bars, Croce says, “I was a cross between a live jukebox and a musical bouncer; I’d try to keep them all sitting down, or at least keep the fights to a minimum.”
