HUDLERLIFETIMELUMBER BUSINESSMllek-•*Others by \Appointment /WAVE SPECIAL!ring Cold Waveiciuding Haircut»fi£lAL $600**•Herbert Hudler has worked with lumber on the retail basisall his adult life.For the past 16 years hehas been president and manager of Hudler-Moore Lumber Co., which he began, with threebrothers (the Moores), who were former competitors in Galveston.Mr. Hudler had managed Burton Lumber Co. in Galveston from January 1945 until April 1947. when he resigned to set up his own company, he was a vice president and manager of the Galvestonyard.Now a resident of 1303 Austin* street, Mr. Hudler spent 20 years 3 1/2 monthswith a chain lumber companyin West Texas, where he grew up. He began work in 1924and about three years later became a manager.The countryside was filledwith mesquite, but few real trees. His father was a cotton farmer and Mr. Hudler grew up on a cotton farm in Coleman county, where he had two brothers and two sisters. He was born in McDade, Lee county, leaving there at the age of four months.He married a “city slicker,” Agnes Robbie, Jan. 19, 1926, in Coleman county. She lived in Santa Anna there. They have a son, Herbert(Billy) Hudler Jr, who is a La Marque architect, and two daughters, Mrs. BruceFarmer of Galveston and Mrs. Frank Hill of La Marque.Each of his children has four children, “and that’s allwe re going to have, they say,”according to Mr. Hudler.During his career with the West Texas chain lumberHerbert Hudlercompany, Mr. Hudler worker at 10 or 12 locations, am was a manager of five o them. We usually haveabout 10 employes directly connected with the firm and a lot indirectly, Mr. Hudler said.We cater to all segmentsof the trade and we think we do a superb job of serving, Mr. Hudler said. “We have the facilities to handle the largest or smallest of orders,”Mr. Hudler will have beenin the lumber business 39years this fall.“Try Hudler-Moore First” is the company slogan, even for such items as electrical and plumbing supplies for the do-it-yourself trade.
