It was a trail from Fort Kaskaskia to Shawnee-town, and was the first road from St. Louis to Southern Illinois. It followed in close proxim. ity the route 13 of today. At Old Du Quoin the trail turned south past the old Pres-byle/ian Seminary, and crossed Little Muddy river. The bridge there was called the Kaskaskiaor Mann bridge.• *From the Kaskaskia bridge the road extended in an easterly direction through the woods about two miles with one prong extending in a southerly direction past the Reheis place, the other past the Humphrey homestead in section 13, then through Royalton and across Big Muddy river. This road has been neglected since the Elkville-Royalton road has been blacktopped, but some day it may be restored and made into an all weather road with markers pointing out places of, historic interest. The trail was first an Indian trail, then a French fur.traders trail, and finally the main roadto southeastern Illinois.es00edeni,r.r-isfisirnnU10yi-i.e*rey
