* DEATH OF JOHN H. WHITING-This morning shortly before five o’clock the longed for and eternal rest came to John 11. Whiting. IIis weary years of suffering were overIand he sank peacefully to the sleejthat knows no waking. The fnnera!Iwill be held from the family residence to-morrow afternoon at four o'clock. An obituary appropriate j for the man and his career will be ,prepared, but in this issue it will suffice to say that John Whiting was f»orn in Painted Post,Steuben county, jN Y«, Dec. 6th, 1834. He attendedschool there and in Lima, N. V . and entered Wesleyan ! Diversity at Middletown, Conn.. graduating in 1855. He came to Iowa in the spring of 1857 and entered the bank of Bra/.elton A: (Jo. When the State 5 Bank was organized be was apjon-ted assistant cashier, and ujon theorganization of the bank under the National Banking System he was elected cashier and afterward President, which position he held up to threeyears ago, when he retired. In 1858 he was married to Miss Julia May, of Bath, N. Y. He leaves his faithful wife and three children,Mrs. G. W. 8. Allen, and James T., of this citv, and Dr. Harrv WhitingBurlington,
