‘There's plenty show at the, Strand! now. Dalores Costello, with the dim pled Charles E. Mack, making love to her—beautiful daughter, of the proud Vasquez family—Warner Oland, crafty boss of Barbary Goast, trying to steal her to sell to 2 Chinaman, and a series of highly melodramatic incidents leading at high speed up to the climax, supplemented by the San Francisco earthquake and fire. “Qld San Francisco,” *synchronized Warner Brothers' Vitaphone produc tion, mixes thrills and romance in a manner that provides excitement and interest in large doses. It's the kind that brings cheers at times. The story is about the last of the haughty fam ily of Vasquez, who had a grant of their rancho land from the King of Spain, where San Francisco now stands, and of the attempt of a vice king to take the ranch away from him. Adventures of breathless kind in the burrows beneath Chinatown, some beautiful ranch patio scenery, and the tumbling of the town in the big quake add their part to gripping melodrama. Joseph Swickard, Anders Randolph, Sojin and many others are in the picture, with Dolores, a girl of rare beauty and sympathetic Appeal.
