Point Pleasant, causing the death of Mrs. ! Spellissy and probable fatal iajuriea to 11 her husband. Another woman who I: was riding in the car with theSpellissys escaped with ahoca and severe lacera-1 tions and bruises. IThe automobile, with the physician I driving and the two women in the back I seat, was en»route to the beach and I reached the crossing just as the express I from Camden approached. According I to Ennis Maxson, the crossing guard, I Dr. Spelliasy ignored the warning disk I and his shouted warning and attempted 1 to beat the train to the crossing. The! car reached the tracks just in time to I be struck squarely in the middle by the I locomotive. The top of the car was I torn from the chassis and the occupants I were caught in the mass of wreckage. IDr. Spellissyand the two women were I hurried to the offices of Dr. Eugene I Carrigan, who advised Iheir immediate I removal to the Spring Lako hospital, to I which they were sent in a motortruck. I Dr. Addinel Hewson of Philadelphia I was summoned, but in spite of of his I efforts and those of other physicians | Mrs. Spellissy died in less than an hour. I Her arms and legs hud been broken, I she had been internally hurt and she j had severe wounds on her head. Dr I Spellissy suffered a broken left leg. He* I is not expected to recover.Dr, Spellisy is generally regarded as one of the greatest bone specialists in the world He is about 55 years of age and was graduated as a physician from the University of Pennsylvania in 1890. He has devoted considerable attention to diseases affecting the spine, especial ly among the crippled children of the poor. It was while doing such work that he is said to have made several discoveries that greatly enlightened orthopedic surgeons and has made such delicate operations more sure of the desired results.Dr. Spellissy besides being one of the chief members of the medical board of St. Joseph’s Hospital, in which institution he has performed some of his moat successful operations, Is also connected with the University of Pennsylvania consulting board, the Methodist Hospital, JolFerssn Hospital and the Orthopedic Hospital
