Graham,—Wounds Inflicted on Anderson Reported at Firrf as Serious and Probably FatalA teli -: hone message received here ! last Thursday evening from the farm ' of Mr. T, W. Graham, near Reaves 1 Ferry, was to the effect that T. W.' Graham had Shot Ben Anderson in the face twice, that Anderson's wounds were serious and probably fatal, and that a physician was wanted to attend Anderson, and the Bheriff to arrest Graham. Dr. J. A. Norton 1 went to attend to Anderson. Sheriff J. A. Lewis, accompanied by Chief of 1 Police, L. R. Ambrose, were on their ' way to the place, about eight miles 1 distant, a few minutes after receiv- iug the message.1 The sheriff met T. W. Graham coming into Conway with his brother, J.5 P. Graham. Tlje sheriff took Graham into custody and brought him into Conway before Magistrate W. H.* Chestnut for the purpose of making a bond, though at that time it is said5 that no warrant had been issued for ! Graham’s arrest, just why was not* stated. J. P. Graham signed the pro-1 posed bond for T. W. Graham, but* T, W. Graham, oWing to his Pervous condition, never signed the bond as principal. Before going into the magistrate's office, T. W. Graham wandered into the store of thf Conway Hard ware Company, wHpre he tried to buy cartridges froptJK?* Ji S. Battle, the1 manaayf. Battle refused to sell ‘ him tl^EuUets, and while Graham ! was in the store he put his hand into J a box containing buck shot and placed 1 a handful In hjs pochoto. After remaining about the Magistrate’s office for some time trying to got the bond arranged, T. W. Graham left the office and started down the stairs to go to the street. He I staggered as he walked and it seems | was unattended when he started down ' the stairs. There is a platform or landing half-way up these stairs.» Just as he reached the half-way rest, j he lost his balance and fell over the railings, a distance of about six or ten feet, and fell on the hard floor of the I hall. He was badly bruised about one r eye, and his nose injured by the fall ■ so that it bled copiously on the floor, t He was carried back into the magis-1 trate’s office where water was procur-1 cd and the blood washed off his face. He remained there in a stupor for some little time and was finally taken home. At the place where he fell over the railings of the stairs a pistol was taken out of his pocket. Later, while in the magistrate’s office, several gun shells and a pocket knife were taken from his clothes. All this time he acted like a man demented and his talk was rambling.Ben Anderson’s injuries proved to be slight as compared to the first impression. Anderson lived on Graham’s place. T. W. Graham was in the field with a shot gun and Anderson perched on top of the fence. T. W. Graham shot Anderson the first time while he was some distance off and the load of bird shot struck Anderson in two or three places inflicting only flesh wounds. After the first shot Anderson went and sat down on his doPt steps. Graham then shot him the second time and missed him clear.* Anderson’s wounds were attended, to and he went to church the same night Just what it was all about was then and is still shrouded in mystery. The Graham farm, the property of T. W. Graham, is one of the finest farms in Horry County. Consisting Qf broad acres of fertile lands, this farm produces abundant crops every year.
