. Indiana Abroad. •St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 10, *68. Mr. Editor :—I wish to call the attention of ^ouc readers to ft few facts iIbonheetton With oar present political campaign,* as it effects the feelings of men in the late slave States.Nearly every man who was on the side of the government during the late war is not only desirous but exceedingly anxious for the election of Grant and Colfax.I am not aware of a single case of any one who was against the government and still advocates and glorifies the “lost cause,’'who is not an enthusiastic friend of Seymour and Blair. No friend of Grant and Colfax threaten#any disturbance of the existing order of things, under which the country is enjoying peace, industry rapidly reviving, and the late rebellious States fast regaining prosperity on the basis of free labor. The party of Seymour and Blair openly threatens, through its authorized leaders, to use the military force of the nation to overturn State governments authorized by law, to disfranchise the loyal voters of the South, and erect a rebel military despotism on the ruins of reconstruction on the basis of loyal suffrage. No one supposes that these State governments can be overturned without war. Voters of Indiana! which do you prefer, war undertaken to place the late rebels in power or the present condition of things? The loyal men of the late slave States look to your State election in O etober with breathless interest. To you it may be but the victory ol one or the other of the political parties. To them it is the security oi their homes, the protection of their property, the safety of their persons. We anxiously hope that the State which acquired such an hon orable distinction during the war for its unbending loj^alty, will nol be the first to become the ally ol the enemies of the country, but thal she will next month roll up a ma jority which will effectually give the lie to those who have slandered her as doubtful.XnERox Swain.
