All things considered, he is preferable to Walpole. But we would rather see a: man dome out for this plice at the solicitation of members of all parties, who has not, himself, been' actively’ identified With any party. Such a man can be found in the district, and if properly brought out, we believe he would be elected in spite of all the intriguing that could be brought to bear against him.The people are not blind to the propriety— the necessity, rather—of an utter disregard of every consideration of a partizan character, in: the choice of judicial officers.■ 'raers in ixegana; ana addresses trom or. The invitation is geue-Trustees of Centre Township have ordered a poll to be opened on the day of the general election in October, to fake the sense of the qualified voters of the Township, on1 the propriety of Jevying a tax to build school houses This proceeding is authorized by the'Common' School Law, now in force in the State, and: a compliance with it is requisite to the harmonious action of the system. Schools of any kind cannot be kept without proper buildings, and no man need be told that our country is wofully deficient in this- respect, at the pres ent time. But from some cause—we know not what—this feature seems to be the most unpopular one in the law. The effort has been made in several townships in Hendricks county, to assess a tax for this purpose by a popular vote, and a failure has been the result in every instance save one; and a like result has followed several similar efforts that we have heard of in other counties. As before stated, we do not know on what grounds some of our citizens have resolved to reject this proposition; and we do not presume to say, therefore, that they have acted improperly.— There may be instances where circumstances of n local character have such a bearing upon this question as to make its rejection, for the time being, a matter of expediency, and in all such cases, those immediately concerned must be the judges. But on the .general question, we do not see how there can be any difference of opinion. We must have school house—their construction will require an outlay of a*certain sum of money; and that money must-come’ from the pockets of the people:Still Another Candidate.—The Daily Journal of yesterday says, that a communication in the Sentinel of Thursday, over the signature of“Many Democrats,” announces that Judge Major has consented to become a candidate for Circuit Judge. We predict the election of Major. For the Advertiser. But many are opposed to this plan, preferring that houses should be built with the school fund. But it is very easy to see that this' course could not be satisfactory to the community;; for only one house could be built in this way ata time, and those neighborhoods not provided for, would be sure to complain, while those who have already built houses bylinquents with the cost of Publication. The Treasurer will take in pay men the paper on all Indiana banks, and al banks in Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Uli Missouri, HARMAN BRITTA11 Sept 15, 1853—4:6wELECTION NOTICE.
