The Lions Closed out Temple 10-7 in 'their opening game and came back last week to gatlast Rutgers 26-10 jg before a record breaking fome crowd of 77,154 wi Coach Paterno has 12 anartere returning from his to last year's team which finished with a 11-1 record. When you add 32 more ex perienced players to his team, you can see why people in Pennsylvania are saying that this is the year of the Nittany Lions, OSU's Coach Alex Gibbs scouted Penn State last week and reported the Lions have a very strong defensive line which is built around tackles Bruce Clark (260 Ibs.) and Matt Millen (256 Ibs.) Both of the men are big, strong and quick. “I can't imagine any team in the country that has two better down line men than Bruce and Matt,” Paterno says. “They have good size and they can run.” At the present time, Clark leads the team in olal tackles with 14 and Millen is second with 13. Behind these two super linemen, Penn State has one of the best linebackers in college with Rick Donaldson, who led the team in tackles last year as a sophomore. Donaldson also recovered three fum bles last year from his in side linebacker position and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown against Temple. Other defensive men on the Lions roster are left end Fred Ragucci (214), middle guard Tony Petruc cio (244), right end Joe Lally (228), linebacker Paul Suhey (226), linebacker Lance Mehl (220), half back Mike Gilsenan (184), halfback Joe Diminick (186) and safety Pete Harris (196). Harris is the brother of Franco, former Lions run ning back and now with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Coach Gibbs believed the Nittancy Lions were holding back some of their offensive game plans for the Buckeyes. The Lions offense is led by their fine Quarterback Chuck Fusina, who is a top All-America candidate. Paterno calls him “my best passer.” Fusina has broken or tied nine Lion records and is being pushed for the Heisman Trophy. In the backfield with Fusina is fullback Matt Suhey, who gained 68 yards against the Buck eyes last year; tailback Booker Moore who ranked fourth on the team in rushing last year and led the team in kickoff returns and flanker Tom Donovan, who missed all of last year with a leg injury. Fusina will have a good offensive line in front of him, consisting of tight end Irv Pankey (248), left tackle Keith Dorney (262), left guard Eric Cunningham (261), center Cnick Cor real (246), right guard John Wojtowicz (243), right tackle Jim Brown (252) and split end —Scott Fitzkee (183). Ohio State and Penn State last met in 1976 with the Buckeyes winning that contest 12-7 “I WAS SO scared I didn't even know who I was following” said Larry Collins (23) the rookie return man, whose 41 yard return at the beginning of the overtime period put the Browns in position to score the winning field goal.
