New Station For CBC-TV At Lynn LakeThe CBC will begin operations with a new TV station at Lynn Lake. Man., on Sunday, Sept. 17. This is a new type of TV station providing remote areas of Canada with television programming, the first one having been established at Yellowknife in the N.W.T. last May.The unit uses programs in four hour segments taped from the daily CBC-TV schedule and shipped by air from the CBC Delay Centre in Calgary to Lynn Lake on a one-week delay basis.Each four-hour segment will consist of widely accepted CBC-TV programs, with some special attention being given to the CBC’s more important public affairs programs. In case of bad flying weather causing non-delivery ol weekly packages, ’'standby’* programming will be telecast. The programs will consist of many well established. Canadian and American shows and will include many of CBC’s new programming for the fall-winter season.•Developed out of existing components by CBC' engineers, the Lynn.Lake equipment consists of a small television transmitter with an effective radiated power of 7.5 watts'. The antenna is 60 feet in height and along with the transmitter is located in the Federal Building in down-town Lynn Lake. The station will operate on Channel 8 with the call lettersCBTA-TV, All programs will be telecast in black and white between the hours of 7 and 11 p.m.The CBC refers to the Lynn Lake and Yellowknife operation as a-• frontier coverage package” TV station. Responsible for-' the operation and administration of the Lynn Lake station is Bruce Macpherson, Station Manager of CBC Winnipeg.Lynn Lake already has a low power radio transmitter operated by the CBC’s Nor-tliern Service.The Corporation plans to extend service to other remote parts of the country which are beyond the reach of regular CBC-TV neUvork transmissions.
