WORK TO START SOON ON ROADS THROUGH PARKLogan Pass and Roosevelt Pasa Routes at Glacier Will Both Be Constructed.Construction of both the Logan pass road through Glacier park and the Roosevelt road along the southern rim of the park, the latter approximately paralleling the Great Northern railway, will probably be realised as a re-ault of federal co-operation and promotion act!rides now under way with good roads agencies, it waa stated Thursday by Scott Leavitt, president of the National Park-to-Park Highway association, following bis return from a meeting of the Theodore Roosevelt Highway association at Whitefish.Serve Different Purpose#.. Each of the proposed roads would serve a different purpose and the relative position of each in the scheme of highway development being followed out in the park region, Mr. Leavitt Mtated. The Logan pass road has been found by the government to be necessity to adequate development of the park and a congressional appropriationof $100,000 has been authorised for construction of the initial stretch, ^hile as a link in the Roosevelt memorial highway the route along the southern rim is vital to the completion of that transcontinental route and the realisation of its attending benefits. Both Roads Neoeaaary. Both of the roads ore necessary and each will serve a different purpose,” said Mr. Leavitt. The congressional appropriation for the Logan pass roadgives that highway r big impetus, of course, and construction will be begun within a short time. The Roosevelt Highway association has recognised tb# value of that route, but is consistently devoting its energies to development of the road along the southern border of the park. This will be a link in the RooeeveK highway when completed and good progress has been made in emphasising its importance. The Roosevelt highwav will pass through considerable territory under the juriediction of the forest service and that depart* ment will co-operate as far as possible.**After tbs Whitofiah meeting. Mr. Leavitt combined hia personal business wifh the business of the Roosevelt Highway association on a trip to Missoula, where he was in conference with forest officials relative to highway matters.
