Some years ago he was placed in the State prison for twenty-five years for killing a man in Ansin county. He remained there about two months and then made his escape. Soon after his escape a powerful negro called Henry Forest broke into a house at Concord, and when he was discovered in the house he attempted to kill the owner. He was tried as Henry Forest and sentenced for fifien years. After the trial it developed that he was not Henry Forest, but Handy HarriB, the escaped convict, so when he was cari ried back to the State prison he had two sentences hanging over him. Since be has been a convict this time he has become one of the most dangerous men in the prison. He has made repeated efforts to kill some of the other convictB, and punishment seemed to haye little or no effect on him. Finally Dr. Kirby was asked to examine him sud he pronounced him violently insane. He sajs that he has the worst form of periodical insanity and is liable to kill anybody at any time, so the negro has now been placed in the department for the criminal insane.
