to fill.TERRY DIES ON GALLOWS.Tlie Slayer of Bely Banler Hung at Ie-cntur, Ga.H. S. Perry -was hanged at Decatur,Ga., Wednesday for tlie murder of Bely Lanier. He met death with a certain .dogr»enf-forti tud e,but not withjthe callousness and indifference which he rj had displayed during his confinement.Ab he mounted the gallows on the arm j of Sheriff Austin his face was ashen. While he stood on the death trap his veyelids fluttered, his' breath caihe in short gasps and he swayed from side to side. It was easy to. see.tbat the ^terror of approaching death had seized (him. He professed a belief in the forgiveness of his sins and expressed j many times over his readiness to die. ^ He died maintaining that he had killed Lanier in defense of his wife’s honor.’ ;On the gallows Perry made the fol- , lowing statement:“Gentlemen and citizens of DoKalb county: I am here to face death. * I am glad to say I am ready to go. I have made my peace with God. I did my duty. I am dying for protecting my clear wife. I may have broken the laws as they aro in Georgia, Jmt I did my duty to protect my wife.“I have prayed during the last few days for my sins to bo forgiven, and when I am gone I liopoyou .will pray for me and my' family.“0, Goa, I hope today that my sins,afe forgiven. It will soon bo all over and finished and I will be no more. I’m going; homo to my God.”The condemned man was -then led to the trap, where he was made to stand directly under the noose. As lie moved his step was faltering and his colorless faco seemed to take on a more death-like palor.He said not a word while the sheriff tied his hands and feet. As the nooso was being fitted about his neck Perry ' closed his ejes and ^ delivered a shorty prayer in a broken voice.When the trap door wras sprung the body gave a short rebound and then swung motionless on the rope’s end..
