Mr.ofit,Infar u«rk he I •rme4.Merer Per-In turning over a few more leaves ol the tell-tale record we find where a man by the name of Jacob H. Foster, has presented a bill to theCommissioners for publishing the Sheriff’s proclamation in the fall of 1880, amounting to $40. The Commissioners having an eye to busi-ness, Boon ascertained that Jacob had charged $12.90 cents more than legal rates for his work, and they occoidingly allowed his bill minus the over charge. Last hut not least for this time, we again find this man Foster engaged in a little trickery that out shines them all for pure, unadulterated pilfering. In the fall of 1884 this man Foster presented a bill to the county for the printing of a lot of blanks for the Clerk’s office. He look the advantage of Mr. Hester’s absence one day and managed to lobby his bill through by making all sorts of declarations that the bill was all right and that he stood in need of the money. The Auditor thinking that alt might not be right took pains to show the bill to Mr. Hes ter, when lo! and behold, it turnedout that the wily Foster had received pay for work lie had never done. Thereupon the Auditor informed this uinn Foster, (who thinks taxes and official salaries are too high) that he must return liis ill-gotten gains to the treasury where.it belonged. The records show where Foster paid hack twenty dollars on December 5th, 1884. Great heavens! how Mr. Foster must sympathize with the overburdened tax payers. Just so the people pay enough taxes to keep him in boodle is ai! he cares for. He failed to form a combination in the Republican party to aid him in securing the people’s money, and he was forced to tiy his luck in the Democratic party. How successful he will be theie, remains to be seen. Time will tell, Had Clerk Healer O. .KM his bill for blanks he hadt •never printed, and paid him three prices i'or work Muring The whole time he was Clerk of the Courts, then no doubt he would have called Hesler a bully fellow and said lots of nice things about him. The public can easily guess now why he hounds Hester’s track without provocation. The reason is very plain, therefore, why Mr. Foster is so extremely anxious to elect Wilson to .the Clerk’s office this year. He will not be satisfied until he gets Clerk in that office who will give the whole amount of the printingpatronage to ihe Times office at fabulous prices. To haye all the legal blanks of the Clerk’s office printed in Van Wert would cost the county several hundred dollars moreper year than to purchase themfrom business houses that keep them in stock. Mr. Foster knows this and iT lie can put a man in for Clerk that he and the Times Printing Company can control, just depend upon it gentle tax-payers, the Clerk’s printed supplies will cost you three prices. Mr. Foster has always demanded that these supplies be furnished at home, and every one knows that Van Wert printing offices cannot compete with large establishments that make specalities of that kind or work. Mr. Foster wants a man in the Clerk’s oflce who will do his bidding, be he Republican or Democrat, and when the Clerk refuses to obey his commands, he can ex-|ect to be cut and carved in the back at every opportunity. It was the acts of honest Republican officials that caused his egress from the Republican party, and if the Democratic otlciala are honest, ibey will see Itow it was done before two )carj rolls around. Yfhcn that party gcti a true history oftheir celebrated leader who throwsmud for money, we imagine they will Imj willing lor another trade.
