A new route for state Highway 3 seemed assured following the north side of the Rock Island, with no crossings between here and Beatrice, and a new viaduct at the southeast edge of Jansen. 50 YEARS AGO, 1945 The Fairbury Journal A special Good Citizen Award was given Fairbury Post master Homer S. Yeakle by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.local post at the fall band festival. It recognized his distribution of air mail from a servicemen to relatives in Fairbury, including his personal deliveries on Sundays and holi days. Hail and wind damaged farms in the Diller area. Corn was flat tened and several windmills toppled. Lloyd Smith bought the shoe repair shop in the IOOF building from Vernon Lemmon. The Bi-Lo Market on the west side of the square with Dick Hopkins, manager, celebrated its 10th anniversary in Fairbury.
