100-Mile Derby On Card For Annual Fair at Dawson DAWSON, Sept. 14. With a field that will include the most daring of the dirt track automobile drivers of the Tri-State district, the 100-mile derby which will conclude the annual Dawson Fair here September 22, and also, the racing season in this sec tion of the country promises to be the banner event of the year. Drivers whose entries have been re ceived by “Bud” Lewis’ of Washington, Pa., associated with the Penn Racing Association in staging the three previous automobile speed tests here, include lead ing money winners of the year in West ern Pennsylvania and Ohio. Lewis, who will direct the 100-mile derby here, acted in a similar capacity for the Penn Racing Association. Auto racing fans from a wide area will make their way here for the speed event of the year in which such widely known pilots as Bill Chittum, of Colum bus, O.; Curley Grandel, of Canton, O.; c. A. Wall, of Washington; Tony Boyle, of Bridgeville; Johnny Clavenger, of Mount Morris; Red Campbell, of Detroit, Mich.; Shorty Wolfe, of Columbus, CO; and B. B. Donley, of Morgantown, will be among the starters. Chittum has been a consistent winner at Bridgeville; Clavenger won at Wash ington this year August 11; Tony Boyle won at Washington Labor Day; Curley Grandel has been winning consistently throughout Ohio and Western Pennsyl vania for several years; Wall, of Wash ington, has likewise been a steady win ner for the last several years. The field, which is not yet complete and will include at least 15 qualifiers, will really be composed of the notables - the dirt tracks of the Tri-State sec on. The tracks will be specially treated to lay the dust by the same method as used by the Penn Racing Association in staging its meets for years and with such ideal conditions prevailing the greatest throng that has witnessed a speed test of the kind during the pres ent season is expected.
