Maugh* I ] on was a bailiff and Elrod was a town j marshal, and the two were attempting to arrest Cleghorn, who^was wanted on tbo charge of operating a blind j tiger. While the arrest was being made, Cleghorn was shot and killed. 10 It Is stated that the fact of who fired r the fatal shot was not satisfactorily v established. Maughon, however, was t tried first and found guilty.
