Clinton County is O. KIThe Prohibitionists of Clinton met in convention at Frankfort, Sept. 8, and placed a full ticket in the field, and4epjoyed an inspiring and enthusiastic occasion. Notwithstanding the disappointment of not having present the expected orator of the day Rev. Aaron Worth, the convention was an entire* success. County Chairman H. H, Hackard presided.Rev. J. A. Groves, of the U. B. church of Frankfort, made a pointed speech, full of conviction and was roundly applauded. He is not a Prohibitionist who is afraid to let it be known from his pulpit. Rev. J. O. Ledbetter, our candidate for State Statistician, followed with a fine talk on the platform and declared that if he were elected the office during his term would surely be Led better than ever before.Mrs. Sayler, president of the Frankfort W C T U, also gave a fine address, and closed by saying that “the White Ribboners are Prohibitionists and hoped soon they could prove it by their vote.* Prof. J. F. Kinsey, of Lafayette, candidate for State Treasurer, and lady, added much to the interest of the meeting by their song3 and the Professor'spointed remarks.Prof.Scymour M. Phillips and brother and a local quartette also sang to the delight of all.• The convention placed in nomination with a great deal of enthusiasm' the following county ticket:Clerk—George H. Ham,Auditor—John R Curts.Treasurer—Eli Clark.Recorder—William Crose.Sheriff—H. H. Hackard.Commissioner—1st Dist., Thos. P. Campbell; 2d Dist., Levi Herr.Coroner—Dr. Isaac S. Airheart.Surveyor—Clark Leansing.Prosecuting Attorney—George M. Layton.Representative—Seymour M. Phillips. The state platform was heartily endorsed, and resolutions favoring the observance of one day of rest in seven,, and an honest and equitable county government, and denouncing the present system of letting county contracts of work as a political reward, were adopted,Clinton county expects the largest prohibition vote in the history of the party. The ticket is made up of such inlluential men that old party men say. than whom there are none better. One life-long Democrat came out openly in the convention in support of our candidate for congress, Frank H. King, of the 9th district. The petition work is a great success. Look for a big vote in old Clinton. People are becoming tired of the enormous taxes and reckless expenditures of money, brought about by political trickery and the corrupting influences -of the saloon, as well as the laws which create and foster it.Miami County, Attention!Harkins and Kinsey are to speak andsing at Denver on the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 21. At night they will speak in the court house at Peru. We arc anxious to have this meeting a big one. Come in from all over the county, and bring your friends. Prof. Kinsey will catch the crowd with his songs, and Bro. Harkins will convert them with his fiery eloquence and irresistible logic. We want to make such a demonstration as old rum ridden Peru has never known. There are indications that this brewery-bossed town is already feeling the influence of our work, but there remains much yet to be done when our mayor and county prosecutor, and circuit judge and other officials, will attend a picnic and speak words of eulogy of a class of citizens who are openly violating the law right under their eyes, by selling beer with out a license while they are speaking. It is hightime that such open connivance with lawlessness on the part of public officials should receive public reproof. We are also trying to arrange for an outdoor meeting at Converse on Saturday, September 24th,of which announcement will be made later.Arrange to be at Peru with a crowd on Wednesday, the 21st.Chas. M. Fillmore.
