Qcaxtbjsui the infamous hero of the Lawrence Massacre; sk*' Awe feel disposed to add a few facts that have bet* brought to our notice. Jesse Quamtuelle and to brother Tom, came to this town, from Washings County, Maryland, some thirty or forty yearsTom learned the copper-smithing trade, andJu*was a gentleman.of leisure, or what is sometime*called a *‘black-leg.” Shortly after leaving thi*h engaged in an extensive horse speculation, giving forged note upon a citizen of this town for a l*f amount of money, fie was arrested and convictof forgery, and sentenced, to serve a term of in the penetentiary. His wife, said to be s kT^fand estimable lady, obtained a divorce, shortly d-ter his incarceration, and was again married wJ resident of Cumberland, Maryland. Immediate after his release from the penitentiary, Quaxtbeu1 repaird to Cumberland, called to see.his former and obtained a private interview with her; dur$ which he abused her shamefully,;beating and chat ing her, and leaving her lying upon the floor alt***V Jin a dying condition. For this offense he was»$^ sentenced to the penitentiary for several years After the expiration of his second term of servi*t- 'he went to Kansas,, then a fitting theatre for sock* spirit as his, and became one of the most notori^j and rabid Jay hawkers in the territory.
