ELLENVILLE Under a crisp September sky, the three Ellenville fire companies joined 17 guest companies Saturday as the streets of the village were filled with bright fire engines and precise marchers for the annual inspection parade. The parade began on schedule at 5 p.m. ‘The fire horn sounded, and the police escort's motorcycle roared ahead. Except for a slight mixup during the procession’s secondass by the reviewing stand at Liberty Square -- one of the musical organizations took a wrong turn — there wasn't a hitch during the entire review. Ellenville police estimated the crowd, which was mostly local, between owo and three thousand. In all 34 units including auxiaries and musical organizations, marched. At the reviewing stand visiting firemen, Chief John Bullock, Loch Sheldrake, Harold A. Sanford, deputy chief, Kingston; and Le. Victor H. Cheviron, of the New York City Fire De partment joined the village board in judging the par ade winners. The winning categories were best home unit, best visiting unit, and best musical organiza tion. Heading the line of march were Ellenville's three fire officials, Chief Pervis Damms, George W.Garri gan, 1st assistant chief, and Wiliam McCoombs, 2nd assistant chief, The Scoresby Hose and Hook and Lad der Company of Ellenville fed the parade's first unit, The Pioneer Engine Company No. 1 brought up the second unit, and the Kimble Hose Company No. 2 headed the third and last parade unit. On the second pass by the reviewing stand, repre sentatives of the three winning organizations were pulled from the procession by the local chiefs. First out was the drum major of the Ambassadors Senior Brum and Bugle Corps of Newburgh, the winning musical organization. Next were Harold Phillips, 1st assistant chief and Hagler Anderson, foreman, of the Pioneers, to receive the citation for the best home unit. Finally, William B. Andrew, Captain of the Eagle Engine Company No. 1 of Middletown, left the procession to receive the prize for the best visiting unit. The fire companies, auxiliaries and musical organizations marching in the parade besides those already mentioned were: Kerhonkson Fire Department, Circleville Fire De partment, Wurtsboro Fire Department, Ulster Hose company, Ulster Hose Company Auxiliary, Wawar sing Fire Departent, VEW Drum Corp. of Kingston, Glasco Fire De partment, Glasco Fire Department Auxiliary, Mata moras Drum Bugle Corp., Pine Bush Fire De partment, Cragsmoor Fire Department, Woodbourne Fire Department, New Paltz Fire Department, Wall sd Fire Department, Walden Fire Department, Napanoch Fire De partment, Middletown State Hospital Band, Walker Valley Fire Department, Neversink Engine Company No. 1, Port Jervis, Summitville Fire Department. DRUGS The prize winning Pioneer Engine Company No. 7 of Ellenville salutes the reviewing stand at Liberty Square.
