dJoliet_Poles__yesterday celebrated National Polish day in Joliet with one of the biggest programs ever attempt ed here by the United Societies at Holy Cross Roman Catholic church. Fully 700 uniformed members of the various Polish societies were in at tendance at the celebration which last ed from early morning until late last meht. ‘The services marked the opening of the Polish Relief Red Cross fund in Joliet. Subscriptions’ for the relief of the Poles at war were taken and the money thus accrued will be sent to Europe at once. Other subscriptions will be taken up and it is planned to have the Red Cross bureau open per manently. Rev. Albert S. Olszewski, pastor of Holy Cross church was in charge of the celebration which started with high mass and special church services yesterday morning. In keeping with the wish expressed by President Wil son the societies joined in prayers for peace. The church was filled to capacity. Each society was uniformed and the various banners and flags were spread throughout the church. The American and Polish flag were crossed over the church entrance. Expressions of re gret for the present war as well as resolutions for national peace were drafted.
