COMPETITION' T1U2 LlFE OF TUADK,—0:i Thursday Messrs. J. T. and X. S. Turner, representing the firm of'Carroll Stacy, of Gaffney City, established themselves in the store o: Messrs. Turner Co., for the purpose of buying cotton, The market opened quiet, and numberless wagons began to fill our streets loaded with the staple. Competition was clean cut, and the market rapidly jumped from 8.524 to 8.70, with the chances of the different firms about even. Friday was a repetition of the same game, and the competition ran the market up to i 9 cents per pound. Our buyers are | determined that the market shall be, | and is now, one of the best cotton markets in the State, the staple selling at present within au eighth of a cent j per pound of the price paid by Charles- j ton. There is no use for our farmers j to haul their cotton to other markets as long as such prices arc paid in clean hard cash right at your doors.
