Shocking Accident. “On Thursday evening an explosion took in the new well now teking in. Fort enry, Which killed a man named John Kelock, and wounded another so severe ly that his life is despaired of. Mr. White lock was a native of Cumberland, in Eng land, and is represented to us as having been a sober, industrious man. He has left a wife and three children, ‘destitute of sport, to deplore their loss. ‘They are desirous ‘of returning to England, but ‘ unable to ‘do so without some pecuniary aid, which We hope the liberality of the in habitants of Kingston, Points Henry and Frederick will soon supply. A subscrip tion has already been opened at the latter, ree i a list is now at the Herald Of fice for the signatures of those who ma de humanely inclined. On Wednesday last, as a white man and an Indian were attempting to cross the riv er, from the market place to Wolfe Island, in a bark canoe, the canoe upset, and the Indian was drowned. The other saved Yellow Fever.Several cases of yellow fe iver have occurred in the city of New York. At Baltimore,its ravages have become truly The Agricultural Society of the District of Johnstown have advertised a Cattle Show, to take place at Brockville, on the first Mon day of October next. Cheafi Molasses.—A person in Virginia has obtained a patent right for discovering that sugar and molasses can be made from wheat, the following is said to be the pro cess:—* The grain is ground and mashed, as if for distilling ; as soon as the mash ar rives at the highest state of saccharine fer mentation, it is strained, and the beer (as it is called) boiled down to molasses.” One bushel of wheat will produce three gallons of molasses, very little inferior to that which is imported. — Our latest English dates are up to the 31st July, at which time serious disturbances still continued to exist in many parts of the king dom. It will be seen by the following proc ation, that a most daring outrage had been ‘committed at Stockport, upon a constable while in’ the execution of his duty. Want of space will not allow us to give the partic ulars of the transaction. Warrenatt, July 26, 1819. Four Hundred Pounds Reward. ‘Whereas it hath been humbly represen ted to his royal highness the Prince Re gent, that about ten o’clock in the evening of Friday last, the 23d_ of July instant, William Birch, a special constable of Stockport, in the country palatine of Ches ter, had in his custody at his dwelling ‘house in Church-gate in Stockport afore I said, Joseph Harrison, schoolmaster of that town, charged with seditious practi ces; and that three men, at present un known, went to the said dweling house, and while the said William Birch was en gaged in conversation with them respect ing the said Joseph Harrison, one of the three men fired a pistol at the said Wm. Birch, and the bullet with which the said sister was loaded lodged in his breast, and little hopes are entertained of his life. His royal highness, for the better and more speedy apprehending and bringing to justice the persons concerned in the fel ony aforesaid, is hereby pleased, in the name and on behalf of his majesty, to romise his majesty’s most gracious par on to any one of them (except the per sons who actually fired the said pistol) who discover his accomplices theirein, so that or apprehended and convicted ereof. “And as a further encouragement his royal highness is further pleased to prom ise to any person or persons (except as a foresaid) who shall discover and appre hend, or cause to be discovered and appre hended, the persons concerned in the said felony, the rewards following: that is to say, for the person who actually fired the said pistol, the sum of three hundred pounds; and for either of the other two who were present at the firing of said pistol, the sum of fifty pounds, be paid by the lords commissioners of is majesty’s treasury.
