‘f lic Tlttrkiaiuc Herald.Mr* Brougham Smyth lias handed us a copy of the Mackinac Herald, number 0, volume 2, dated *10110 2d, 1880. The prospectus says it was published every Saturday, during the season of navigation, at the island of Mackinac, by J. L. Gantt* It contains a description of Mackinac island, and points around, Cheboygan is not mentioned and we presume at that time was not thought of sufficient Importance to require a notice. It has the Republican ticket of 18G0, and much of the paper is devoted to the pro' ceedings of the Chicago convention that nominated Lincoln and Hamlin. The plat form is given [in full It announces the departure of J. W. McMath on the stcrimer Michigan, as a delegate to the congressional and state convention and pronounces “Mae as one of “our staunchest and truest Republicans/' Capt Wagiey’s schooner Industry arrived that day from Buffalo where he had recently purchased her. “She is a trim little vessel and just the thing for the fishing trade/’We learn from it that the “propeller Wisconsin, Capt. Hickey, run aground in a fog. on Spectacle Reef, Bois Blanc, one tlay lust week, and that the tug Leviathan, Capt Had. went promptly to her assistance, and/’ of course, “pulled her off/1 F. La bat advertises for a boot and shoemaker. 1 tominic Murray. Sheriff, offers for sate at Sheriff's sale, all the right, tide and interest of Amable Goodroe to certain property. R. P. Iiulbert is the most extensive patron of the advertising columns and occupies about a half column. J. W. McMath, attorney at law, and Win. M. Johnson, County Clerk and Register of Deeds, both have cards, and the Masons announce that “the regular communications of Mackinac lodge No. 71 are held Monday evenings on or preceding the full moon/' It announces that the “Mission House, one of our first class hotels, kept by E. A. Franks, is now open for the season/'The Herald before us is* a neatly printed four column folio.
