Personal. Five new life-saving stations have just been completed on the coast of Florida. The main purpose is to save the hives of shipwrecked sailors and others who reach land in a destitute and starving condition. Illinois has 929,940 horses, nearly 2,000,000 cattle, 1,500,000 hogs, 17,575 pianos, 21,608 melodeons, 155,720 sewing machines, and diamonds valued at $50,000. Carl Wolfsohn, with his ‘‘velvet touch,’’ is responsible for the great number of pianos. A fun-loving Concord girl is crying her eyes out over a serious joke. She and a young man went through the Marriage ceremony ‘‘for fun’’ at the Hedding camp meeting the other day, and she now finds that the young man who performed the ceremony is a jus tice of the peace. A landlord of Washington who rents houses to three employees of the Treas ury Department was notified by them on Saturday that they could not pay their last month's rent, because $28 had been stopped from the pay of each for campaign purposes. Since the cyclone at Galveston in September last the whole island is be ing covered with the finest quality of Bermuda grass. As the sand hills on the beach form they will become matted with this grass, and thereby become permanent sea walls, . Prof. Blackie in a recent lecture said: “A woman is naturally as different from a man as a flower from a tree. She will be fitted for the rough and thorny walk of the masculine professions when she has got a rovgl beard, a brazen front and hard skin, but not sooner, Mrs. Richards, an English woman, 64 years old, amuses herself in Eng land by walking 1,000 miles in 1,000 hours. She walks two miles from a quarter before to a quarter past 2, and so on each successive two hours, taking rest in the intervals. She does her wife in ten minutes, and although she has for nearly two months been walk ing in this way, she does not display the slightest symptoms of distress.
