Parishioners Air Condition SchoolAsk not what your schoolcan do for you, but what together we can do for the Parish Family,” is the thought that spurred on a small group of parishioners at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Hitchcock to begin the job ofimproving the educationalfacilities at the Parish School. The project they initiated was to air-condition the school rooms.The group elected Paul S. Ganter to consult with the pastor, Reverend George Olsovsky and a committee was organized in the summer of 1973. Members were Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Ganter, president of the Home and School Association; Richard Croft, chairman of the Parish Board of Education; Deominic Noto, Mrs. Mary Delahaussaye, Mrs. C. H. Moore, Mrs. Nell Lamb, Rev. Olsovsky and Sister Cecelia Monahan, principal.Many meetings were heldand plans were formulated. Donations were given by area businessmen and pledges were made. Ganter was unanimously elected chairman of he committee to present the plans to the Parish Finance Committee, the Parish Council, The ParishBoard of Education and the Home and School Association. The Home and School Association agreed to sponsor the project.The first fund raising project was the Halloween Carnival. President Croftasked for volunteers and members who offered their services were Mrs. Earleen Click, chairman; Mrs. Nell Lamb, co-chairman; Louis Tibaldo, Mrs. Bill Pritchard, Mrs. Alana Griffin and Tommy Talbot. Room Mothers of the Parish School assumed the responsibility oforganizing and staffing the booths and kitchens.In February, 1974, the Homeand School members with Mrs. Betty Nallie organized a Valentine Spaghetti Dinner. Helpers included Mrs. Josephine Cambinao, Mrs. Fannie Schire and Mrs. Victoria DeVries.Mrs. Nell Lamb organized a rummage sale in the Parish Hall.However, the children of Our Lady of Lourdes School were not to be outdone by their parents and friends, They launched a Chocolate Drivewith Lori Ann Walker and , Kimberly Ann Noto as co-k chairmen.New members added to theAir-Conditioning Committee were Mrs. Alana Griffin, David LeCompte, Frank Trapani and Mrs. Click.With contributions from theAltar Society and the Men’s*Club and extra collections inNchurch once a month, fundswere finally available topurchase and install the air-conditioning.* 1 * . . * ”*'.*« • k i.
