FM Radio KAXR To Encourage CooperationThis fall a long held dream will come true for the staff of KNAU. That dream is a sister station, KAXR-FM.The idea of a second sta*-tion was born about three years ago, when the need for a closer communications contact between the university and the city arose. At that time KNAU did not have sufficientpower to cover much of thecity and it was thought that an FM station would reach more people. After this decision was reached, an application was made to the Federal Communications Commission for an Educational FM station to be operated by Northern Arizona University. Early in the 1968-1969 school year a licensewas granted.KNAU and KAXR will both operate in new quarters, the Creative Arts Building. The new quarters are larger and more spacious than the old radio station home in the Journalism building. No definite on the air datehas been set for the stations, but it is hoped that both can be on the air at the end of September. WhenKNAUcomes back, its format will be the same as it was last year, with some changes. The format for KAXR has not been set yet, but it will be educational in content. The frequencies for the stations are: KNAU - 1000KC, and KAXR - 88.5 mHz.
