For more than twenty years, St. Mark A.M.E. Church had stood since having been rebuilt in 1945 without a corner stone. The dream was fullfilled on Sunday evening, September 8, 1968. Members from both the S.P. Jones and Joppa Lodges of Free and Accepted Masons laid the stone after the evening session of the Men’s Day Pro gram. The church was rebuilt in 1945 under the leadership of Reverend W.J. Daniel, who is now pastoring in Columbus, Georgia. The Building Commi ttee was Mr. Levy Massey, Mr. W. J. Watts and the late Mr. W. E. Rollins. Rev. H. W. Grant was presiding Elder and Dr. S. L. Greene was Bishop. Officers of S. P. Jones Lodge #118 are Mr. Earnest McIntyre, worshipful Master, Mr. Willie Thompson, Senior Warden, Mr. Samuel Boykins, Junior Warden and Mr. William Jones, Secre tary. Officers of Joppa Lodge #43 are Mr. Henry Groover, Wor shipful Master, Mr. Nash Smith, Senior Warden, Mr. Nathaniel Lawson, Junior Warden and Rev. Ellis Fann, Secretary, Rev. E. L. Martin is pastor of St. Mark A.M.E. Church and Reverend T. J. Isem is Pre siding Elder. (Article submitted by Samuel L. Boykins)
