THE WAR NEWS !New YonKi 4th.—The Timet' Washingtondispatch says a distinguished officer in the Armyof Potomac has sent in word that Lee has notgiven the slightest indication of a purpose tomove his forces. On the other hand he is waitingfor the result ot the operations of Gilmore and Burnside. The opinion prevails among the moat prominent officers nt Headquarters that if these operations he successful Leo will propose terms ol surrender, and endeavor to bring the war to a close,The following extraordinary statement t* addressed to the Turns iu which paper it appear# this morning ;Philadelphia, lt.—Having just arrived from Richmond, where I have been for over one year,I wish you would give the following publication in valuable journal: I have during iny stay inRichmond made 1 lie intimate acquaintance ot J. Lane, captain in the Confederate army, and sou of Gen. JLane, of Oregon, who is well informed and who assured me that the late invasion of the North by Lee and Morgan was made upon the earnest representations of Valiandighnm* who assured Jeff. Davis and his cabinet that the North was ripe for revolution, and only waited the appearance of a Southern army to proclaim tor Jeff. Davis. Vullandigham’a representation was corroboiutcd by the tone of the majority of the Northern journals who surely would not denounce the Administration so boldly, except by the ussurance of having the masses strougly in their favor.San Fkancisco, 5th.—Union County Convention la*t night nominated for Judge of Twelfth District, Samuel H.
