A reception will be given in his honor at Sunday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at theCarner, originally from Europe, lives at 735 MargoDrive, Simi. His paintings reflect the style of the School of Paris. Both in Barcelona andin the French capital, wherehe studied art, he moved in the same milieu of that international group of painters, among which are Picasso,Dalf and Miro, his compatriots and friends. ^ 1Carner was bom In Bala-guer, Catalonia, which was the home town of Gasper dePortola, the famous Spanishconquistador, and Father Ser-ra, founder of the CaliforniaMissions.Started at Age ISCarner not only is a painterand an artist in the variousmedia, but also is a writer and poet. He has published 16books, among which is a history of the M arch of Portola in California in 1769 and he has won a number of international literary prizes. .at age 15 when he was still injal years he wassecretary of the Dept, of Culture and Fine Arts in Bar-high school. During the summer vacation he was cleaning the brushes and taking lessonsfrom a well-known local painter in his home town.Later, in Barcelona and in Paris, he studied art with private instructors and in various academies. Since then, hehas been painting, on and off, for the last 40 years.During his life he has occupied high positions with his country's government and inicelona and commissioner ofpublic spectacles (theater andcinema) for the government ofCatalonia. ,5He has traveled all over Europe and lived in many countries including England, France, Belgium, Cuba and Mexico.
