San Juan drug agent denied bail in narcotics caseCapistrano Valley NewsA San Juan woman who learned her husband was having an affair only after he was arrested in a narcotics sting stood by her husband during a recent bail hearing.Even with her support, Richard Wayne Parker, a state narcotics agent charged with drug trafficking, was denied bail earlier this month. He is being held in federal jail.Parker's case has been marked by acrimony with his wife, Diane, who learned during a court hearing that he was having an affair for the past year and paying for the other woman's $1,000 a month Newport Beach apartment.Diane Parker, a retired Orange County Sheriffs Deputy, later was charged with assault and battery after allegedly entering the office of her husband's suspected mistress and attacking her.Diane Parker, 42, attended her husband's bail hearing. His lawyer said she was willing to testify to gain her husband’s release on bail. His attorney, Everett Bobbitt of San Diego, asked Parker be released on $100,000 bond.Assistant U.S. Attorney Beverly Reid O'Connell called the figure “simply ludicrous.” Parker, who owns a Via Buena Vista home, stashed $600,000 in alleged drug profits. Bobbitt saidthe government has the money.Parker and four others werearrested in July after a search of several homes turned up about 26 pounds of cocaine and about $285,000. Drug-sniffing dogs also indicated there were traces of cocaine in Parker's truck, the FBI said.O'Connell said that although some of the co-defendants have been released, Parker is in a different position. He was the source of their supply.”The prosecutor was also unimpressed by Diane Parker’s participation.“She didn’t know what this man was doing,” O'Connell said. “He had multiple residences and a paramour. There is nothing tosuggest this man would not flee, and he is a danger to the community.”Parker said nothing during the hearing.U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder said she would reconsider her decision if she gets a favorable report from pretrial services. Even so, she said she would demand a much higher bail than his lawyer suggested and would place him on home electronic monitoring.Parker is charged with conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.Diane Parker declined to talk with reporters outside court.Tht Associated Prsss contributed to this report
