Moses Schamp was Fairfield’s first photographer. His studio was located in a small building on the corner of the lot now occupied by the Fairfield Prep Public Library and he resided in the rear of the structure. Later Schamp moved his studio to the third floor of the building built by Daniel Young on the east side of the square to house his mercantile business Moses first made only daguerro types when he first opened his shop in Fairfield and later added equip ment to take and develop photo graphs. All of his photographic work were portrait-type pictures and many of the early residents of Jefferson county were photographed in the Schamp studio. Although very little is known about Schamp, many of the older residents remember hav ing had their pictures taken in his shop. Many of the caits used in this Centennial edition were made from photographs taken by Schamp. Moses Schamp
