Winston Bell, who is serving as a waiter this summer in a hotei near Boston, is one of the lew colored men practicing law in Baltimore, He was born a slave in Virginia. In 1B87 lie was graduated from the Virginia and Uolleg iate institute, He saved enough money by working as a coachman, buts ler, farmhand and waiter to enter Harvard law school in 1S03, In 1806 he oponed an office in Baltimore. He has fo«md it hard to get clients and is obliged to do odd jobs in summer to help pay his expenses.
