WILD AS A BUCK:. .She Wild Man of the Wo;ds Discov-;ered Near Woodville.*»Moberly Monitor, Sept. 8th.The people of Salt River township, near Woodville. are in an intense shite of excitement over the discovery of a wild man in the woods of that vicinity. The discovery ‘was first made on Wednesday morning last, by a gentleman who was out hunting cattle, who came upon him suddenly in the woods. He was sitting on a log, gnawing away at a raw roasting ear, but, on being approached, he sprang lip and striking out in a long trot, quicklydisappeared in the dense gro\vth of timber. The cattle hunter called atter him to know il he had seen anjr stray cattle, but he gave back no answer, and only accelerated his speed.Thursday morning he was seen again. A lady in that vicinity had sent her little boy to a pond iu the woods to get a quilt which she had washed. The monster suddenly made his appearance and savagely growled out at the boy to let the quilt alone. The boy was terribly frightened but held on to his quilt and ran to the house, startling his mother with the strange story.The singular being is described as tall, powerfully built, with heavy beard, and head covered with a long tangled mat of black hair. He is almost naked and carries iu his right hand a club about three feet in length.The whole country up there is aroused, parties ot men are in search of him in every direction. The most probable theory advanced is that he is an escaped lunatic.
