ABOLITION CONVENTION.Cazenovla, Wednesday, Aug. 21.The Convention met at the Free Church in this village at 10 a m, and was called to order by J C Jackson.Rev Samuel J May was appointed Chairman pro tern.A committee w^s appointed to nominate permanent officers for the Convention, consisting of Samuel Wells, Charles Bray and J W Logen.Business Committee—Gerritt Smith, Jas Baker, G F Rice, Mary Springstead, and Caroline Brown.Song by the Elmore fcjisters, who are fugitive slaves.A committee of five \vas appointed to report resolutions on the imprisonment of W L Chaplin, for his recent attempt to abduct slaves trom the District of Columbia, as follows: J C Hath way, W R Smith, Elmore Seymour, E Smith and J C Jackson.A Committee was appointed to raise a subscription m 10 cent, donations to purchase silver cup pitcher and twq silver goblets, tQ be presented to W L Cliapjin, for his eminent services in the cause of Humanity. The following ladies were such committee: Beebe Hathaway, Miss Burwell, Mrs F Rice.The committee to nominate permanent officers reported the following:President—Frederick Douglass, (col.)Vice Presidents—J C Hathaway, Sam’lWard, (colored,) Miss or Mrs France^ Ilfiwley, Charles W Wheaton.Secretaries—Charles D ^liller, Miss Anna P Adorns.Fredrick Douglass on taking the Chair, m^de a few appropriate remarks. He then pj*esentp4 2 letter from Samqel R Ward, in which fhe latter declined to have any thing to do with the meeting. The qamc of Charles B Hay was substituted for that of Mr Ward as Vice ffesident.A communication was read from Mr Goodell enclosing some resolutionsA committee on address and resolutions was appointed, consisting two black and three white men. The only names we are able to give are E S Platt, J W Logan and James Baker.On motion of SJ May, brother Hath a-* way was requested to give in the afternoon a description of his interview with Chaplin in the jail at Washington. Also, that the fugitive slaves present, of whom there are some thirty, be requested \o sit together, where they may be seen by delegates. Adjourned till afternoon.The convention is large, consisting qt some 2,000 persons, amopg whom there is a smart sprinkling of blocks.
