Something New.—We have wit nessed, during the past week, the operation of Allen’s Rotary Steam Engine,connected with Woodworth's patent Planing Machine. ‘This en gine has a ten horse power, and is a perfect piece of machinery. Its in ventor, Mr Oliver Allen of this city, has been engaged in its construction during the term of seven years. He has now brought his invention to a perfection, and we hope he may re alize a reward for his indefatigable labor. ‘The cost of engine posses sing the power of the one alluded to is about SLLOO. The planing machine, which is propelled by the rotary engine, is really a mechanical curiosity, and belongs to Messrs. J. J. Spalding, builders. The machine performs the work of about 40 men per day. It will plain, groove and tongue a rough board, 60 feet in length in workmanlike manner, in the space of one minute. The cost of the work performed by this machine with the attendance of two men, is about SS per day.
