First Ride for Little Girl Ends Fatally When Machine Is Struck by Street Car. Dorothy Granke, three years old, took her first automobile ride last night. A west-bound Belmont avenue car struck the automobile, which con tained Otto Granke, 2850 West Twen ty-third street, his three little daugh ters and Herman Huebner and wife of 2300 South California avenue. Dorothy was thrown upon her heat and died in the Town Hall patrol on the way to Chicago Union Hospital. The injured were: Irene Granke, eight years old; internal injuries and cuts upon fhead and shoulders. Edna Granke, twelve years old, cut and bruised on body. Mrs. Huebner, believed to have been internally injured. Otto Granke, bruised about head and shoulders. Huebner, a saloon keeper, had taken the Granke family for a ride. The machine was struck at Belmont and Greenview avenues. Mrs. Hueb ner refused to go to a hospital. Her husband is being held by the police pending an investigation of the acci dent. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shute, 328 West Chicago avenue, and Miss May Brannigan, who lives with the Shutes, were flunge headlong out of the Shute automobile last night when the steer ing wheel became deranged at Oak street and Lake Shore drive and the machine swerved into the breakwater wall. Shute landed in the water and swam ashore. His wife and Miss Brannigan were bruised but not seri ously hurt.
