Aged Violin Maker Dead.Richmond, Ind., September 9.—Alvin B. Clark, eighty-nine years old, one of the well-known American makers of violins, died in Reid memorial hospital this morning. Re was a victim of pneumonia. Plans were under way for a testimonial benefit musical recital for' Mr. Clark, and the date had been fixed for September 15.Mr. Clark was a native of New England and had lived in Richmond a half century. He was not a musician, but he possessed a wonderfully clear conception of what a perfect instrument should be, and for sixty years or more he had made violins. It was not until within the last twenty years, however that his instruments began to be regarded as of exceptional merit. Now that there will never be another Clark violin made the value of his instruments in the hands of musicians will increase greatly. Mr. Clark died practically penniless. The arrangements for the funeral have not been announced.
