AN EXCITING ROMANCE.Beach Advocate—Something f a romance took place in the jrolden Valley during the past Few days, iti which a lover from Wisconsin is left in the barber shop at Beach, while his bride-to-be makes a get-a-way with a young neighbor. The story, as near as can be learned, follows: A short time ago Peter Peter-90U came out from Wisconsinto marry Miss Gladys Handels, to whom he was engaged, stop-ing in the meatime at the home of her parents, who live north of Sentinel Butte. During the past year Clifford Gatewood had paid some attention to theyoung lady, but apparently hadnot made much headway, and nothing was thought of it. Last Thursday Mr. Petersou, Miss Randels and Clifford Gatewoodall came to Beach, ostensibly to do some trading, but while Mr. Peterson was in the barber shop getting shaved, Gatewood and Miss Randels took the team and went to A. L. Prouty's farm, south of Carlyle. After a vain search for his compan-ions, Peterson walked to the [g Handel's home expecting to find he had been left as a joke and the young people there. Such was not the case andsteps were taken to locate the pair. Nothing was found of them until Sunday morning, when Mr. Randels went to the home of Gatewood and found him in bed. He demanded that the girl or her whereabouts be devulged at once and was told that she was at a neighbors. I |j He offered to go to the pasture and get his team and take him where she was, but hecaught the horse he rounded a butte in the pasture, after which he rode to Vernon Campbell's and borrowed a saddle horse, since which he has not been seen.The assistance of the sheriffand the county attorney was sought with the result that these gentlemen arrived at Mr. Prouty's a short time after the couple had left for Baker, Mont. They also learned they hand arrived on Thursday and claimed to be man and wife. Mr. Gatewood made arrang ments for his wife to remain there while he went to the rail road camps in search of work. He returned Sunday and Wednesday they went to Baker. A number of letters had been left with Mrs Prouty to mail, addressed to relatives of Miss Randels, probably advising them of her whereabouts and decision to marry Gatewood instead of Peterson. Both people are of age so the matter was dropped.
