Xio.iii tolls about ltiohinonU at tlio Time of the L^lrst Yearly Meeting:.In a lengthy report of the recent new Yearly Meeting of Friends, at Wilmington, Ohio, Joseph Doan weaves in the following concerning Richmond in ’25, and the circumstances which led up to the erection of Earlham College.When Richmond was awarded the Yearly Meeting in 1825, it found her a poor little village isolated in the edge of | \) her State- ‘and County, and almost smothered by dog-fennel. She soou after became an educational center for two Stales, which proud position she holds to-day. It was a common thing for School Committees to go to Yearly Sleeting on the hunt of well qualified teachers, and such teachers used to con'greWag gate there expecting an engagement. In this way came about the first High Schfrol in Clinton County. The committee of Springfield Monthly MeetingSchool met Wilson Hobbs at Richmond and his teachingand lectures the winter)™ of iS47-8 were famous the county over. The next winter Daniel Roberts was induced in like manner to teach a High School in Linton’s school house in Adams Township.
